María Luisa Portuondo Vila

I’m a multidisciplinary Chilean artist, with a practice rooted in creating experiences that unfold through the relationship between the artwork and its participants, whom I consider active co-creators.

My work often focuses on creating living archives: ever-evolving records shaped through dialogue and interaction. I gather fragments of personal memory and weave them into micro-narratives that come together as a small reflection of collective memory. Through this process, I aim to contribute to a shared sense of historicity and reflection on what defines “us.”

Depending on the direction of my research, my projects often take on different forms; from theater, performance, and painting to artist books. These mediums become spaces for exploration, inviting viewers to engage and wonder.

My work has been shown in Asia, Europe, and across the Americas. I currently live and work in New York City.
